Welcome to Color Material Design, the first online sourcebook for the well-rounded CMF and industrial designer.
CMF design is a small and growing discipline, but that shouldn’t mean it’s a mystery. We aim to build this platform to educate, advocate, and celebrate the value of CMF Design.
We’ve gone to plenty of design conferences, searched books and the web for insight and inspiration, and have traveled the globe to learn about CMF design… but we always felt like we were only talking about a fraction of what CMF designers do. This is an evolving resource dedicated to the rest of it.

For as long as CMF design has been around in the industrial design scene, there has been the assumption that CMF design is subjective and frivolous. Is that an overly limiting way to think of CMF design? Are we closing ourselves off to viable business opportunities when we overlook CMF as a proven way to build better products?
We say yes.
